AIRBORNE \\ A3 - Adam Page "Bread and Sticks" by JoFF Rae

THE RENEGADE PEACH PROJECT presents AIRBORNE \\
A series of music video postcards set to music from home, with New Zealand based artists contributing unreleased tracks to the project. In 2015 The Renegade Peach Project ventured on a 3 month journey that began in Cambodia and wrapped in San Francisco. As we roamed, we captured hints of the streets, people, wildlife, food, and spirit of each locale before uniting our visuals with the submitted tracks. Alchemy.

Each artist was asked to provide a time of day for us to film, and a keyword or colour to help us capture the essence of their track. Adam's wanted us to start with the dawn, his key word for the track was "Pulse" and his selected colours? "ALL of the colours! SO MUCH COLOUR!" - which for those who know Paris well is rather a tricky task. We love a challenge, and Adam.

Renata Flores Rivera "The way you make me feel" Michael Jackson - Versión en Quechua by JoFF Rae

Grabado en Vilcashuamán, una joya arquitectónica de los incas en Ayacucho - Perú; con la finalidad de revalorar nuestra lengua ancestral "El Quechua".

In the middle of ancient Incan ruins in the foot hills of the Peruvian Andes, 14-year-old Renata Flores Rivera brings together two things dear to her heart: the ancient Indigenous language of South America, Quechua, and Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel.”

“It’s a project called Las juventudes tambien hablamos Quechua‘ (the youth, we speak Quechua too),” she said. She said it’s important for her “to be able to appreciate this language again, because we are losing it here in Peru.”

Flores’s mother, Patricia Rivera Canchanya, kicked off the campaign this year through a cultural association, la Asociación Cultural Surca, which she founded 11 years ago to promote arts and Peruvian culture in their home city of Huamanga (also known as Ayacucho). Rivera is also a musician, and set up a music school through the association. She said she saw an urgent need to pass on Quechua to younger generations, before the language is forgotten in Peru.

“I speak Quechua, but not very fluently anymore because we don’t use it,” she said. “They teach a lot here, English, which is also really important because it’s the global language, but we can’t abandon our roots because this is ours, it’s a heritage that we shouldn’t allow ourselves to lose.”

Tunes Of I / Get the debut album > Now on Kickstarter by JoFF Rae

Introducing the expansive neo-dub/roots/soul/psychedelia seven piece ensemble Tunes of I, from New Zealand's capital city.

Our fav' band right now... kickin' a KickStarter for their new album - Tunes of I, a 7-piece neo-dub/roots/psychedelic band from Wellington, New Zealand. Started out as a 3-piece back in 2011 and have gone through four years (and a couple of line-up changes) to bring our music to all parts of New Zealand, and now, we've got our sights set on the world.

These guys supported The Original Wailers & Sticky Fingers earlier this year & have just been announced on the Soundsplash Festival Raglan lineup for 2016!  Within a few days of release the Kickstarter reached 15% of the $10K they need to get their debut album out... it's great to be a part of their success!

Tunes of I is proud to announce the release of their official video for Give In, after they won funding on The Audience in November 2014. Thanks to Paul Innes, NZ On Air Music and www.theaudience.co.nz. Visit www.tunesofi.com for more info

546: Burroughs 101 by JoFF Rae

This American Life host Ira Glass was never into William Burroughs. Didn't get why people love his writing so much. Then he heard this radio story that changed all that, partly because it wasn't very reverential about Burroughs. For Burroughs 101st birthday, we hear that story.

Iggy Pop, the documentary's narrator, begins by listing some of the artists and artistic movements influenced by Burroughs: Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Steely Dan, Kurt Cobain, Lou Reed; punk, heavy metal. We hear from director John Waters on the impact on him of Burroughs' open homosexuality and frankness about sex. Others talk about Burroughs' heroin addiction and obsession with guns and weapons. Burroughs shot his wife to death in what he said was a terrible accident.
